Service Deli Clerk

Albertsons LLC - Santa Fe, New Mexico

PURPOSE:  Delivers enthusiastic customer service to create loyal and satisfied customers through the preparation and sale of custom sliced and packaged deli items, food/party trays, hot foods, cold prepared take out foods and salads.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

·        Maintains an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with an emphasis on providing fast, friendly customer service.  Engages in suggestive selling and other sales techniques via telephone, in-store intercom and one-on-one customer contact.

·        Accurately completes all required receiving duties including: organizing cooler and storage areas, refrigerating products immediately, verifying orders against invoices, reporting shortages and claims to ensure proper billing, and dating and rotating products to ensure freshness and quality.

·        Follows proper product handling, preparation and packaging procedures.  Follows Company guidelines and schematics for setting up and maintaining the cleanliness and appeal of product cases, display tables and special displays.  Ensures proper signage of products. Complies with retail labeling laws, federal and state regulations, and Company code dating policies.

·        Safely uses, operates and cleans equipment such as kitchen utensils, fryers, conventional and microwave ovens, slicers, grills, wrappers, scales, printers and pallet jacks.

·        Maintains deli case cleanliness, visual appeal and inventory levels.  Responsible for ensuring the proper cleanliness, sanitation and appearance of deli area and equipment and for ensuring a safe work environment.

·        Accurately completes all required paperwork and logs.

·        Responsible for completing all required training programs.

·       Responsible for performing proper and effective product demonstrations.

·       Responsible for performing all job duties with honesty and integrity and in compliance with Company policies and procedures.

 

PHYSICAL AND GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

·        Requires strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain professional demeanor in dealing with customers and co-workers.

·       Requires a good understanding of overall Company practices and Service Deli Department policies and procedures.  Requires the ability to judge and react to business activity.

·        Must frequently reach, lift and maneuver objects of varying dimensions and weights up to approximately 45 lbs.  Performs frequent repetitious arm movements necessary for slicing, cutting and preparing various deli products.

·        Requires legible handwriting and ability to follow written instructions.  Must understand and follow cooking instructions.  Must understand finished product weights.

·       Operates computer software and electronic ordering devices to order product.

·        Must judge and react to business activity.

·        Thorough knowledge of product and product preparation.

·       Complies with Company grooming standards and dress code.

·        Must stand for long periods of time, walk, bend, stoop, twist, turn frequently and occasionally climb ladders.  Manual dexterity and good eye-hand coordination are necessary.  Must be able to operate kitchen utensils and deli equipment including slicers, fryers and rotisserie ovens.

·        Mental alertness is necessary to ensure safe and accurate completion of work activities.  Requires knowledge of basic math and weights and measures.  Must have knowledge of taste, content and perishability of products, food safety, safety and sanitation procedures and department policies and procedures.  Requires thorough knowledge of product and product preparation. 

·       May be required to work nights, weekends and holidays.  Scheduled hours will vary.  Good attendance is required.  Utilizes cleaning supplies and equipment.

·       Must comply with appropriate grooming and dress code standards.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

 

·       Working conditions consist of a temperature controlled store environment.  Exposure up to 350° while cooking and maintaining products.  Exposure of 35° F while handling products in cold cases, 28° F while handling products in cooler and -20° F while handling products in freezer. 

·       Utilizes cleaning supplies and equipment.  Hands are frequently exposed to water and cleaning agents.  Requires use of plastic or latex gloves.
