Clinical Analyst

Position Summary:

The Clinical Analyst is responsible for the collection, synthesis and analysis of disparate and complex patient care data sets. The data supports performance improvement and research for key strategic initiatives. This role is instrumental in securing those data required to support regulatory and value based purchasing initiatives. This role requires high level clinical decision making required to accurately and reliably abstract data sets. The Clinical Analyst reviews medical records across a variety of  platforms to facilitate clarification of documentation by providers and clinicians. The review serves to ensure the presence of quality documentation for patient care that accurately reflects patient severity, risk of mortality, appropriate level of care and that meets the required regulatory elements such as  Core Measure requirements and other documentation linked to Value Based Purchasing.   The Analyst identifies opportunities for organizational improvement as related to the documentation.  The Clinical Analyst interfaces with patients by conducting patient phone interviews in pursuit of outcome data required for such national databases as NSQIP and the ACS.

Education:

Licensed in the State of Vermont.  Baccalaureate in Nursing.  Master's degree preferred.

Experience:

A minimum of five (5) years of nursing experience in a complex acute care setting is required.  For internal applicants an RN III is preferred. Should possess an understanding of quality assurance, basic understanding of performance improvement methods and tools and continuous improvement theory. Data collection and analysis experience required.  Must demonstrate expert critical thinking skills.
