Position Summary:

The LNA Extern Program is open to nursing students who have successfully completed their third (3rd) year of a B.S.N program. Through a mentoring relationship with a Registered Nurse, LNA Externs are able to provide direct patient care.  Externs practice within the scope of educational preparation and demonstrated competence, with the exception of medication administration.  In the past, participants have been placed on Cardiology, Cardiothoracic Surgery, General Medicine, General Surgery, Hematology/Oncology, Orthopedics, Rehab, Labor & Delivery, Maternity, Medical Intensive Care, Surgical Intensive care and Neuroscience units.  Selected participants are required to be licensed as a Nursing Assistant in the State of Vermont prior to the interview fair on March 18th.  The 2016 program starts June 7, 2016 and ends August 5, 2016.  LNA Externs are per diem employees, which can allow for some scheduling flexibility; however, it is required that participants be available for the duration of the program.
