PURPOSE: Delivers enthusiastic customer service to create loyal and satisfied customers. Maintains proper inventory levels of products and ensures the cleanliness and appearance of the Bakery Department. Responsible for preparation, packaging and display of bakery products.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Maintains an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with an emphasis on providing fast and friendly customer service. Engages in suggestive selling and other sales techniques via telephone, in-store intercom and one-on-one customer contact.
· Performs receiving duties including: organizing cooler and storage areas, refrigerating products immediately and correctly apply cold storage procedures, verifying orders against invoices, reporting shortages and claims to ensure proper billing, dating and rotating products to ensure freshness and quality, in compliance with Company policies and procedures.
· Follows proper packaging and product handling procedures. Follows Company guidelines and Division schematics and standards for setting up and maintaining the stock, cleanliness and appeal of product show cases, display tables and special displays. Follows proper signing procedures to ensure accurate pricing.
· Complies with Company code dating procedures for all bakery products. Complies with federal, state and local labeling requirements for packaged merchandise.
· Slices bread and prepares all bakery items, including proofing, baking, packaging and icing product. Helps customers with special orders for cakes and other bakery items, including adding personalization to baked items.
· Responsible for performing proper and effective product demonstrations.
· Ensures cleanliness and sanitation of bakery equipment utensils, bakeware and work area. Ensures a safe work environment. Ability to use trash compactor and bailer.
· Uses work aids such as safety cutter knives, bread slicers, knives, photo cake machine, mixer, microwave oven, ovens and proof boxes.
· Accurately completes all required paperwork and logs.
· Responsible for completing all required training programs.
· Responsible for performing all job duties with honesty and integrity and in compliance with Company policies and procedures.
PHYSICAL AND GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
· Requires strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain professional demeanor in dealing with customers and co-workers.
· Requires the ability to judge and react to business activity.
· Requires a good understanding of overall Company policies and Bakery Department procedures.
· Requires legible handwriting. Must follow written instructions
· Must stand for long periods of time. Must frequently reach, lift and maneuver objects of varying dimensions and weights up to approximately 40 lbs. Requires manual dexterity, good eye-hand coordination and good balance. Must push and pull fully loaded pallet jacks, four-wheel and six-wheel carts. Must move and work at a production rate of speed. Must use trash compactor and bailer. Bends, stoops, and reaches frequently and occasionally climbs ladders.
· Mental alertness is necessary to ensure safe and accurate completion of work activities. Requires knowledge of baking procedures, food safety, safety and sanitation procedures, basic math including calculator and weights and measures. Must follow baking instructions and finished product weights. Requires knowledge of taste, content, handling and perishability of products and department and Company policies and procedures. Complies with retail labeling laws, policies, federal, state and local regulations.
· Operates label making machine, computer software and other electronic devices.
· Utilizes cleaning supplies and equipment.
· May be required to work nights, weekends and holidays. Scheduled hours will vary. Good attendance is required. Must comply with appropriate grooming and dress code standards.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
· Working conditions consist of a temperature controlled store environment. Frequent exposure to 400° F while baking products. Frequent exposure to -20° F while handling products in freezer. Frequent exposure to flour dust. Hands are frequently exposed to water and cleaning agents. Use of plastic or latex gloves.
