Hillside Children's Center is looking for a full time Skill Builder I to work with our Therapeutic Foster Care team in Rochester, NY!

The Skill Builder I performs functions that assist in the care and treatment of children/youth and families and assisting children/youth to develop life and social skills in a community based setting and in establishing a safe physical and emotional environment for children/youth and families in care. The Skill Builder I recognizes differentiating youth/families behaviors, participates within designated treatment teams to develop service and behavior management plans, and executes such plans aimed at assisting youth/families to achieve their personal goals and objectives. Candidates must have the ability to engage youth/families in trust-based relationships, have well developed skills as an advocate for youth/families and be an effective communicator (written and verbal).

Essential functions of the Skill Builder I include, but are not limited to:

  • Continually demonstrates the emotional confidence and good judgment required to build productive, engaged children/youth/families and family relationships while implementing required rules and routines.
  • Responsible for managing youth/family activities within an individual or group dynamic, assuring the safety of the youth/families assigned, and applying appropriate emergency and crisis intervention principles and techniques.
  • Pro-actively maintains current knowledge of the youth/families emotional and behavioral status, assesses the effectiveness of service plans, and supports youth/families interactions with family and local community. 
  • Provide life skills and social skills training for youth and families.

Qualifications

Required: High School Diploma/GED and 1-2 years of relevant experience working with youth or at least a Bachelor's degree if no prior experience.  Preferred: Bachelor’s degree with 1-2 years of relevant experience working with youth. Candidates must have the ability to engage youth/families in trust-based relationships, have well developed skills as an advocate for youth/families and be an effective communicator (written and verbal).

Valid NY State Driver's License required.  Candidates must meet agency driving and insurance standards.
