Direct Support Professional I (5092)

Hillside Children's Center is looking to hire relief status Direct Support Professionals to work on an as needed basis with our team in Rochester, NY!

The Direct Support Professional I (DSP I) performs functions that assist in the care and treatment of children/youth and families and assisting children/youth to develop life and social skills in OPWDD and IRA settings and in establishing a safe physical and emotional environment for children/youth and families in care.  The DSP I performs job requirements with regular supervision and is actively learning new areas of expertise in order to fulfill a wider ranging set of responsibilities. The DSP I may develop, implement, monitor and report on treatment objectives and modalities of the children.

Essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Recognizing differentiating youth/families behaviors, participates within designated treatment teams to develop service and behavior management plans, and, as appropriate based on skills and experience, executes such plans aimed at assisting children/youth/families to achieve their personal goals and objectives.
  • Responsibility for managing youth/families activities within an individual or group dynamic, assuring the safety of the children/youth/families(s) assigned, and applying appropriate emergency and crisis intervention principles and techniques.
  • Proactively maintains current knowledge of the youth/family’s emotional/behavior status, assesses the effectiveness of service plans, and supports children/youth/families interactions with family and local community.
  • Continually demonstrates the emotional confidence and good judgment required to build productive, engaged children/youth/families and family relationships while implementing required rules and routines.  Ensures the safety of the children/youth assigned and is thoroughly aware of all procedures relating to emergencies.
  • An adept communicator at all levels, recognizing issues and situations that require notification and communications to others, and completes all assigned responsibilities including all required written and verbal documentation, reports and log entries.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED and 1-2 years of relevant experience required. Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Psychology, Sociology or Education, plus 2 or more years of experience is preferred. Candidates must have excellent verbal and written skills. Candidate must be highly collaborative and able to work well in a team environment.  Must also be highly motivated and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Applicant must be available to work evenings, weekends and holidays. Candidates must have a valid NYS driver's license and must meet agency driving and insurance standards.
