Psychologist

The Psychologist is responsible for the diagnosis or evaluation of mental and emotional disorders of individuals through observation, interview, and psychological tests, and formulates and administers appropriate programs of treatment. Identifies psychological, emotional, or behavioral issues and diagnose disorders, using information obtained from interviews, tests, and records. When necessary, Consults reference material, such as textbooks, manuals, and journals, to identify symptoms and make diagnoses. Effectively utilizes and interprets a broad array of psychological testing and assessment instruments to assess youth clinical and cognitive strengths and needs. Develops and implements individual treatment plans, specifying type, frequency, intensity, and duration of therapy. Discusses recommended treatments and progress with patient and/or caregivers, using effective communication skills assuring their understanding of the prescribed plan. Interacts with clients to assist them in gaining insight, defining goals, and planning action to achieve effective personal, social, and educational development and adjustment. Uses a variety of treatment methods, such as psychotherapy, behavior modification, stress reduction therapy, and play therapy. Consults reference material, such as textbooks, manuals, and journals to develop approaches to treatment. Evaluates the effectiveness of counseling or treatments and the accuracy and completeness of diagnoses. When necessary modifies plans and diagnoses to more completely and accurately match the condition of the patient. Refers clients to other specialists as necessary.

Qualifications: Doctoral Degree in Psychology from an accredited college or university, with at least one year of supervised pre-Doctoral experience in Psychology. Candidates licensure as a psychologist in New York State or eligibility to receive this within one year of employment. Must be able to function as a member of a therapeutic team.
