Clinical Administrative Supervisor

Copley Hospital - Morrisville, VT

The Administrative Supervisor serves as the onsite administrative representative for clinical and managerial functions during off-shifts, weekends, and holidays. In collaboration with Department Heads, s/he provides leadership, consultation, and collaboration in a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment and is the primary back up for front managers in their absence. The Administrative Supervisor plans for, leads, coordinates, and facilitates the provision of quality care and service from a hospital-wide, shift-specific perspective in a manner that fosters accomplishment of the specific Department’s goals and objectives. The Administrative Supervisor is responsible for issues related to staffing, patient/family relations, risk management, clinical coordination, patient placement, public affairs and communications, evaluation and mentoring. Ensures appropriate distribution and allocation of supplies/equipment and provides for adequate numbers and mix of staff to deliver appropriate clinical services to the patients served. Reports to Senior Director of Patient Care Services. Compliance with all applicable State and Federal laws, regulations, and policies governing the provision of health care.

 
Responsibilities:
  • Actively participates in the planning of departmental & house-wide program development
  • Assist staff to develop communication skills
  • Assists in the identification of education needs for the department and participates in education offerings.
  • Assumes direct responsibility for supervision of all hospital personnel on assigned shift\Assumes authorization to remove medications from designated areas and to access the pyxis to refill pockets as needed when pharmacy is closed
  • Assumes responsibility for engaging in the process of self evaluation and mutual evaluation with the Senior Director of Patient Care Services
  • Assumes responsibility for maintaining Critical Access Hospital Designation
  • Assures that staff utilize computerization functions appropriately and accurately
  • Collaborates with the education department to meet educational needs of staff.
  • Communicates and demonstrates support for departments’ annual plans and goals
  • Communicates and supports organization’s mission, vision and goals
  • Consistently displays a collaborative leadership style.Acts as a role model
  • Demonstrates awareness of department specific PI activities and or initiatives identified by department heads
  • Demonstrates awareness of house-wide specific PI activities and or initiatives identified by the leadership.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication and work collaboratively with physicians.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of RN union contact and supports the NM by implementing it.
  • Develops an active and collaborative relationship with all departments.
  • Documents own record of attendance at educational offerings.
  • Facilitates unit/department program efforts by ensuring the effective implementation of department programs by working closely with staff and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Identifies program and systems problems; takes initiative to seek resolution and communicates changes to appropriate leader.
  • Incorporates knowledge about current issues in Nursing and Health Care into the professional practice environment.
  • Initiates activities to develop staff by mentoring, coaching
  • Initiates, directs, and facilitates the delivery of high quality age appropriate care in a cost effective manner.
  • Maintains effective, diplomatic, accurate communications skills.
  • Makes effective decisions regarding staff and resource allocation that is supportive of patient needs and program budgets.
  • Participates in hospital wide and department level committees
  • Participates in professional meetings and educational conferences to maintain and enhance professional competence
  • Possesses timely, collaborative decision making skills.
  • Serves as a liaison between units, administration, and community.Interacts with all departments, physicians, patients, community, and news media in a professional manner.Assists patients, families, and staff as needed in time of crisis.
  • Supports the orientation process of new employees
  • Utilizes critical thinking skills when unusual situations occur, demonstrates ability to implement action to best meet the needs of patients and staff.

Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing, A.D.N.

  • BSN, MSN preferred
  • Three years of experience in an acute hospital setting.
  • Previous leadership experience desired.
  • Current VT RN license, current BLS and ACLS certification
