Reporting to the Vice President for Advancement, the Director of Development will plan, direct and coordinate fundraising activities and provide oversight for the maintenance of the University’s fundraising database. Activities will consist primarily of seeking gifts from alumni, non-alumni individuals, corporations and foundations in support of students, faculty, programs, and facilities. The successful candidate will build relationships among prospective donors and volunteers to support programs and priorities; visit donors and prospects asking for contributions; build relationships with faculty and leadership to assist in presenting needs to prospective donors; direct events or receptions to maintain current and cultivate potential donors; develop short and long-term goals and objectives; design fundraising campaigns; prepare supportive materials, reports, and plans; plan and direct communication methodologies and oversee the development of written materials, videos, and informational workshops; review and identify the need for brochure updates and changes; oversee and ensure timely correspondence and maintenance of files and database records to keep donors and others informed; and perform related duties as assigned.
Essential Functions
Ability to travel and to work nights and on weekends. Ability to follow up on donor needs and the ability to develop and execute short and long-range programs. Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of constituent groups including University departments, staff, faculty and students. Effective use of communication and interpersonal skills; perform computer functions such as word processing, email, and spreadsheets; effective use of phone, keyboard and other office equipment. Ability to stand, walk, reach with arms, stoop, kneel, etc.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution; three years of progressive experience in establishing fundraising programs and demonstrated knowledge of the development process, including prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship; and successful completion of a campus interview that may include a demonstration of skills.

Experience with a moves management system; demonstrated ability to work and collaborate with diverse groups including students, faculty, staff, and the general public; demonstrated ability to supervise support staff, interns and/or student workers; ability to work self-sufficiently in a fast-paced environment; strong presentation, communication (written and oral), and organizational skills; proficient computer skills; and demonstration, through past accomplishments and actions, of the ability to support Mansfield University’s principles and values of Character, Scholarship, Culture, Service (http://www1.mansfield.edu/mansfield-creed) and the University’s strong student-centered vision and mission.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree and five years of progressive fundraising management experience in the higher education/non-profit setting. Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge database.
