The Category Manager supports the development of account sales growth strategies by providing insightful analytics as well as market/shopper insights in order to support a mutually beneficial plan within all product categories sold at Walmart. The Category Manager works to develop category review, prepare new item presentation; recommend assortments as well as providing promotion analysis and recommendations. This position collaborates with Sales teams, Channel, Product and Brand Marketing teams, Sales Operations teams, Global Replenishment and others.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS
  • Identify sales opportunities based on competitive sales and market analysis.
  • Monitor industry, consumer and technology trends that can deliver a competitive advantage. 
  • Maintain an internal sales dashboard/database based upon Walmart POS information.
  • Develop a collaborative and value added relationship with Walmart merchant/ buyer:
    • Share product and market insights on a regular basis.
    • Develop weekly reports (based on Walmart merchant’s guidance).
    • Conduct regular meetings (based on Walmart merchant’s guidance) to review scorecards/business performance.
    • Perform the duties of category captain or advisor for select categories, as award by Walmart.
Analyze sales and inventory:
  • Work with Sales Operations on the development of weekly and monthly reports.
  • Work closely with Global Supply Chain and provide recommendations based on Modular drops and annual seasonality to improve inventory levels/in stocks.
  • Collaborate with Walmart sales team on monthly sales forecasts.
  • Identify new sales opportunities and make product recommendations based on sales analytics and customer objectives.
  • Provide management with information to help with sales strategies.
  • Support Management decision “Dashboards”.
Provide guidance to:
  • Sales Operations team members charged with maintaining SKU’s on Walmart systems and websites.
  • Internal E Retail team members supporting Walmart.com.
  • Prepare and assist with Product Line Reviews (or PLRs):
  • Assist in developing and working with Marketing and Sales teams on overall strategy of Line Review.
  • Provide Line Review analytics and provide same to Channel/Sales Operations team member assigned the development of the overall PPT presentation.
  • Provide Line Review Modular recommendations and graphics to Channel/Sales Operations team member assigned the development of the overall PPT presentation.
  • Create Modulars to help Sales Management and Walmart merchant team visualize product presentation.
  • Set and maintain live modulars in SW office.
Ensure on-going Modular productivity:
  • Increase product performance and sales while improving consumer shop-ability of set by making quarterly Modular recommendations for improvement.
  • Advise and develop relationship with Walmart Merchant and team by providing information and insights to assist in their decision making.
Monitor VOC regulations:
  • Identify affected products & stores.
  • Monitor inventory to ensure compliance.
  • Communicate with Walmart to help ensure products are correctly identified and properly stocked.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • FORMAL EDUCATION: (GENERALLY, IF RELEVANT EXPERIENCE IS ACCEPTABLE, THE CANDIDATE MUST HAVE THREE YEARS OF WORK EXPERIENCE FOR EVERY ONE YEAR OF COLLEGE EDUCATION REQUIRED)
    • Bachelor’s degree required 
    • MBA preferred
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:
  • Previous experience as a category captain or advisor strongly preferred. 
  • Strong analytical and research skills developing value added analysis including category strategy growth opportunities.
  • Well-organized, detail-oriented and able to handle a fast-paced work environment
  • Excellent internal and external customer service orientation
  • Ability to ensure a high level of service, accuracy and overall quality is maintained.
  • Strong team building skills
  • Ability to work effectively with management at all levels
  • Excellent Excel, PowerPoint, MAS Access, Retail Link, ProSpace and Space Planning knowledge and depth in addition to strong understanding of data base concepts.
  • Strong communication, time management as well as personal presentation skills
  • Comfortable working both independently as well as collaboratively within teams.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be able to sit, stand, hear, and see on a constant basis.
  • Must be able to walk, write, and type on a frequent basis. 
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds. 
  • Must be able to climb and descend stairs. 
  • Must be able to bend, carry, reach, push, and pull on an occasional basis.
  • Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing. 
  • Work surfaces may include concrete. 
  • Employee must be able to operate a computer and communicate via telephone. 
  • Some travel to other locations, meetings and/or seminars is required.
