Responsibilities:
 
The Account Director – Manages the relationship with the Buyers at Walmart.  He/She will be responsible for driving market share and profitable revenue growth, and maintaining customer relations by providing strategic vision, direction, and leadership for the account management team.  The Account Director – is the face of PPG to Walmart for the entire business.  He/She will develop strategic initiatives in partnership with the Buyers/customer goals and needs, and execute account-specific business plans to achieve account profitability, serving as the primary account contact.  The geographical scope of the position covers North America.  He/She will be a critical member of the Walmart Business Line team and the position requires building strong relationships internally.  The successful candidate is responsible for the strategic direction of the account, along with the day-to-day interaction with the customer, as well as managing the existing portfolio of business and identifying and pursuing new opportunities for growth.  This individual is also responsible for execution of the strategy on a daily basis in accordance with the high level of customer service that is demanded in a retail environment.  This will require the Account Director to work closely with other teams within PPG to be able to coordinate this execution.  This position will provide counsel on all areas including product pricing, merchandising, supply chain, and finance.
 
Additional specific responsibilities for the position include:
 
  • Directing the account management team by setting objectives and operationalizing them into specific measurable goals with clear expectations, measurement, and performance management.
  • Ensuring sales and profit goals are attained by aggressively driving profitable growth for the business line.  He/She will develop and implement strategic plans to drive sales in conjunction with customer goals and objectives and the objectives of PPG Industries.
  • Identifying long-range strategic issues that need resolution to deliver the future product portfolio, and then help lead resolution of the same.
  • Responsibility for building relationships with Walmart contacts and negotiating and executing plans through their own team and functional support teams in order to grow sales and account relationships.  Conduct regular reviews of business performance, promotion strategies, and manage overall store planogram activity.
  • Help define the product costing approach that most accurately reflects the overall product strategy and helps drive sales efforts to the right products.
  • Ability to negotiate and execute plans through functional support teams in order to grow sales, increase margins, and meet annual targets.  Accountable for adjusting strategy and individual action plans to ensure overall objectives are delivered on time and financial targets are met successfully. 
  • Work proactively with marketing team members to suggest and develop appropriate programs to maximize sales and margin growth.  Partner with field sales leadership on strategy / execution needs.
  • Working with internal business partners in marketing, merchandising, and operations management to achieve the short- and long-term goals relative to financial contribution and positioning in the marketplace.
  • Participating in the development of business plans in support of the overall strategic vision.
  • Maintaining strong, positive customer relations through hands-on involvement with Walmart.
  • Active involvement with the Director – Home Center Field Sales/Strategic Accounts in participating in and supporting the overall strategy and vision of the company.

Requirements:

 

Education
 
The successful candidate should hold a BA/BS degree in business or a related field.  A master’s degree, specifically an MBA, is a plus.
 
Experience
 
The successful candidate will be a business- and results-focused leader who has the highest ethical and professional standards.  A minimum of 12 to 15 years of progressively responsible commercial account management experience with a successful consumer products company of significant dollar volume known for its customer service is required.  Experience in other functional areas, such as marketing, merchandising, or finance is a plus.  Most importantly, the candidate will have a proven record of running profitable revenues in a growth organization.
 
Additional requirements include: 
  • Experience in direct and indirect sales environments, as well as B2B and B2C is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience working cross-functionally to achieve business objectives.  Experience developing and executing business plans and building high-performing organizations that consistently meet and exceed performance expectations.
  • Proven success in consistently achieving revenue and profit goals; strong financial / analytical skills to interpret operating statements and other financial data and manage budgets.
  • Established experience in targeted sales and marketing - influencing people to act.
  • History of developing new solutions to diverse and complex problems with conflicting requirements in the absence of guidelines.
  • A proven track record of hiring and developing top talent.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead an organization to increasingly high levels of performance.
  • Partnership with others within a highly matrixed organization.
  • Solid understanding of the total business process and the need for teamwork, interaction, and cooperation between all functions of the company.
  • Strong business and financial acumen with the analytical skills to synthesize information and get to the heart of an issue.
