Position Summary:

The Transportation Manager will review, monitor, report and recommend improvements to all daily Outbound Transportation functions and processes to ensure load quality standards, budgetary goals and delivery times are met or exceeded.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform a daily review of Route Optimization results and (RFD) ready for delivery times. Investigate potential improvements to these results and review with Dedicated Carrier personnel and DC Transportation Regional Manager. Ensure delivery of goods to the stores to meet on –time goals.  Work with inbound logistics group to identify opportunities for backhauls.  Identify opportunities for NLT or delivery day changes.  Drive cube opportunities in conjunction with the shipping department.  Implement SOP execution.
  • Direct, coach and delegate to operational supervisors (level 33 and 34) as appropriate.  Develop supervisors and associates to achieve the department’s performance goals and objectives.  This includes on-the-job training, coaching and giving feedback on performance.
  • Reconcile weekly Carrier invoices against actual Carrier activity. Review invoices for accurate allocations to Corporate Refill and Inbound.  Communicate variances to Dedicated Carrier personnel and DC Transportation Regional Manager.
  • Manage the departmental budgets and expenses within established guidelines to include proper planning, cube attainment, overflow management and resource requirements in order to meet service level requirements, accuracy and quality goals, and controlling shrink.
  • Serve as initial and primary contact for DC Customer Service team for the purpose of evaluating, correcting and communicating Store service issues and requests.  Manage any restricted or space constrained store data.  Manage the coordination of new store openings.  In charge of executing forward warehouse activities throughout the year as needed.
  • Review daily Service reports (NLT) for accuracy and completeness. Communicate discrepancies to Carrier personnel and DC Transportation Regional Manager.  Identify areas of opportunity to improve the on time delivery to stores.
  • Continuous analysis of, and improving department processes and procedures.
  • Review daily/weekly yard and transfer activity and report key productivity metrics to Transportation Regional Manager.

Essential Skills Required:

  • Solid understanding of Truckload Transportation operations, preferably in a retail environment.
  • Proven ability to deal well with people at all levels and working in a team environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to lead and develop both exempt and non-exempt associates.
  • Route Optimization experience preferred.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours.
  • Technical knowledge:  Transportation Management Systems, Route Optimization software, proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Brio)
  • The physical demands referenced here are relevant to performing the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, the associate is frequently required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and talk or hear.  The associate is occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

 

Basic:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 1-3 Years of experience
