Position Summary:

Distribution Center associates are an essential part of The Home Depot s distribution network. They load and unload trucks, move material within the facility and from the loading platform by carrying, pushing, rolling or operating hand trucks, forklifts, hoists, motorized conveyors, or other material handling equipment. They safely operate forklifts or other machinery in order to complete tasks such as loading, unloading, sorting, staging, and transporting products. General Maintenance Distribution Center Associates paint, plaster and perform other building maintenance functions including minor plumbing and minor carpentry in order to maintain and repair facilities and react to maintenance related incidents, such as spills.

Specific Distribution Center/Warehouse positions may include: General Maintenance Associate, General Warehouse Associate, and General Warehouse Associate II.


MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES -

  • Add, subtract, and calculate quantities of merchandise
  • Unload, sort, stage, and transport merchandise, and deliver it to the proper location
  • Accurately write and distribute forms
  • Identify and read vendor packing slips, carrier shipping documents, UPC labels, and receiving documents
  • Enter receiving and shipping information into the facility's computer system
  • Maintain a clean and functioning work area
  • Interact with a variety of people, including delivery drivers, supervisors, managers, and associates

NATURE AND SCOPE -

  • Due to forklifts and other heavy equipment traveling through the facility, temporary cracks may appear in the floor, causing an uneven walking surface
  • The warehouse environment can be dusty and noisy
  • Doors are frequently open, causing drafts and interior temperature changes
  • Floors around work area may become slippery during wet weather conditions
  • May have to handle merchandise and work with tools with sharp edges
  • Passing forklifts emit gas fumes
  • Tools, supplies and related merchandise may contain hazardous materials

Environment:

  • Typically in a comfortable environment but with regular exposure to factors such as temperature extremes, moving machinery, loud noise, and fumes which may cause noticeable discomfort or a moderate risk of accident or illness

Travel:

  • Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.

ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS -

  • Under regular pressure to meet deadlines, quotas and/or must frequently deal with difficult issues related to people or situations.

Qualifications:

Must be eighteen years of age or older
Must be legally permitted to work in the United States A valid drivers license and proof of insurance is required for driving positions
Additional Minimum Qualifications:
Education Required:
The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a high school diploma and/or GED

Physical Requirements: Must continuously stand or walk or regularly requires lifting/handling/carrying material or equipment of moderate weight (8-20 pounds)
