Corporate Manager - Convenience

POSITION PURPOSE:
Responsible for the development and implementation of the Convenience Category Business Plan(s) for company’s fleet of convenience stores and fuel kiosks.  Manager will be responsible for developing category strategies that are executed via product assortment, pricing, promotion and shelf/display presentation to achieve sales and profit goals.   Manager will work closely with Divisions, Fuel Sales Managers and Vendors to grow sales and profits.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Convenience Category Management
  • Meet with National Vendors to establish national relationships and secure promotional funding, trade dollars, rebates, allowances, etc.
    • Negotiate contracts with vendors for best cost of goods, rebates and/or promotional allowances
  • Develop monthly Display/Promotional plan and communicate in advance to Divisions, Fuel Sales Managers and stores

Convenience Store Marketing & Merchandising
  • Responsible for on-going in-store merchandising
  • Create and update key convenience merchandising schematics for all variations of fuel stores (kiosks, c-stores)
  • Plan and execute merchandising/schematic layout and setup
  • Identify upcoming ad items to be used for the ‘Suggestive Sales Initiative’ (SSI) each week
  • Ensure weekly Marketing/Actions Plans have been developed and distributed
  • Schedule and facilitate employee conference calls and meetings
  • Provide weekly and monthly sales/profit/gross margin updates to Corporate Division Management
  • Track Suggestive Sales weekly sales and revenue progress, while identifying stations with opportunities
  • Collaborate w/Division SME’s (Deli, Produce, Floral, etc..) to identify opportunities to increase sales
  • Collaborate with food and beverage vendors to ensure product is ordered and displayed to support special promotions and every day sales opportunities
  • Coach and mentor station personnel on marketing and suggestive sales ideas, messages and execution

  • Provide feedback and suggestions on in-store layout traffic flow/patterns and site access points
  • Provide feedback and suggestions on required c-store equipment and merchandising needs to achieve sales goals

Government Regulations and Safety/Health
  • Work with Fuel Sales Managers to ensure fuel associates are trained on all aspects of food safety, with particular regard to on-site prepared foods and drinks
  • Communicate food safety requirements to Divisions as needed/required

Information Technology
  • Become proficient with pricing, product and promotional systems
  • Work with IT on solution to establish fuel centers as stand-alone business unit

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

Education Level: 
 
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or Marketing preferred
 
Experience Level:
  • Must have no less than 5 years convenience retail marketing, merchandising, and/or buying experience
  • Must have 3-5 years’ experience in operating retail convenience stores
  • Must have 3-5 years retail management experience preferred, preferably convenience retail management
 
Skills and Background:
 
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work without direct supervision
  • Must have excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Must have excellent communication skills both verbal written
  • Must be proficient in Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Must be able accept change and be a proponent of change as business demands dictate

Number of Nonexempt:  All C-Store Managers and Attendants (number varies by division by C-Store)
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:  25 - 30% travel to inspect Division fuel stations to review merchandising, seek local sales relevance opportunities and provide sales training and guidance to fuel center associates.
     
SALES/ANNUAL REVENUE: TBD Based on experience
 
ADDITIONAL REMARKS:  Candidate should be highly motivated and engaged in the Division’s fuel and convenience business with desire to exceed sales and margin goals and grow convenience sales in excess of Industry, Division and Company metrics.
