Automated Driving Engineer – Sensor Hardware Engineer

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting research and developmental efforts in sensor hardware and sensing systems for level 4 autonomous vehicles.
 
Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement sensors and sensor processing techniques for autonomous vehicles
  • Aid in development of algorithms for signal processing, sensor control, feature detection and matching, motion estimation, localization, etc.
  • Perform quantitative evaluation of sensor and algorithm performance
  • Perform calibration of sensor systems and development of calibration tools
  • Evaluate sensor systems and ensure system integration
  • Perform simulation studies to optimize sensor configurations
  • Implement and optimize sensor processing algorithms
  • Code optimization to migrate prototype algorithms to automotive/embedded systems and/or parallelization via GPU architectures
  • Perform simulation and in-vehicle experimental validation and testing
  • Possess strong oral and written language skills
  • Present results for internal management and at external venues such as conferences
  • Publish technical reports, papers and/or pursue Intellectual Property rights
  
 
Basic Qualifications: 
  • Master’s degree in Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Physics or related fields
  • 3+ years experience working with hardware sensing systems such as cameras, LIDAR, RADAR, GPS, IMUs, etc., including a strong understanding of the fundamental science behind each sensor mode
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ph.D in Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related fields
  • Demonstrated success performing independent, self-directed research within a relevant field
  • Strong interdisciplinary background in science and engineering with solid programming skills
  • Demonstrated experience working in a team-based project from inception to finish across multiple disciplines, e.g., hardware design and implementation, data acquisition and analysis, mathematical modeling, algorithm development, application implementation
  • Proficiency in multiple operating systems, including Windows and Linux
  • Proficiency in multiple compiled programming languages such as C/C++, Java
  • Proficiency with software development tools such as gcc, gdb, valgrind, subversion
  • Experience with algorithms and concepts such as image processing, feature detection and matching, structure from motion, simultaneous localization and mapping, coordinate frames, 3D rendering
