Vehicle Dynamics Simulation Engineer

Position Summary:

Position Duties:
 
 

• Work directly with a NASCAR race team using custom vehicle dynamics simulation software for race setup optimization.
• Support the team’s race preparation process with team directed vehicle dynamics analysis.
• Attend races as necessary to support race weekend vehicle tuning process with simulation.
• Plan and conduct rig test of race cars for the purpose of model correlation as necessary.
• Review and tune tire model data to increase simulation model accuracy as necessary.
• Contribute to ongoing simulation / simulator enhancement and correlation efforts.
• Collect subjective feedback and objective data for continual modeling improvement.

Minimum Qualifications:    
 

• Bachelors of Science in Engineering required.
• 2+ years work experience in a professional racing engineering capacity OR in the automotive industry vehicle dynamics discipline.
• 1 course passed in one of the following areas: vehicle dynamics, suspension and steering system design, aerodynamics and tire modeling.
• 1 course passed in one of the following programs: Atlas, MatLab, Simulink or VBA.

 
Preferred Qualifications:
 

• Masters of Science in Engineering.
• 5+ years of experience in professional racing or automotive industry in a leadership role.
• Dymola simulation software experience
• SAE vehicle competition (Formula SAE / BAJA / Etc.) especially a leadership role.
• Suspension /steering / tire design experience.
• Vehicle dynamics development experience.
• Familiarity of Pacejka based tire models.
• Data analysis and programming experience using Atlas, MatLab, Simulink or VBA
• Extensive experience with vehicle dynamics simulation software

 
 

• Experience in vehicle testing in a laboratory environment.
• Ability to function in a fast paced race environment.
• Highly motivated individual w/ excellent communication skills
