Key Responsibilities
 
This position has accountability for leading implementation and maintenance of product stewardship compliance requirements in all Industrial Coatings (IC) business segments in the Americas (U.S., Canada, Latin America) to support the global development, sale, distribution, transportation, use and disposal of IC products. Key accountabilities include the following: 
  • Understanding regulatory and corporate Product Stewardship (PS) requirements, translating and integrating them into IC policies and processes to ensure that requirements are communicated and fully understood within IC.
  • Liaising with product management, technical, supply chain, sales, purchasing and manufacturing staff to provide direction on PS requirements, and to support incorporation of these requirements into relevant business processes. Requirements include those of government agencies, PPG corporate, and IC customers.
  • Coordinating with sales to work directly with customers on potential regulatory impacts and PPG solutions
  • Leading remediation and communication of product non-compliances utilizing all appropriate Strategic Business Unit (SBU) and Corporate functions to prevent business interruptions
  • Identifying and communicating regional situations that require action due to additions and/or changes to existing regulatory requirements, and developing creative solutions to deliver required compliance
  • Coordinating internal reviews of IC product stewardship compliance programs, including periodic self-audits.
  • Participating in the evaluation of potential acquisition targets as well as the development of detailed project plans to effectively integrate companies/entities into the SBU.
  • Briefing (proactive and scheduled) senior IC Americas leaders on the status of regulatory compliance within the SBU.
  • Working with IC SBU Product Stewardship managers globally to understand the North America impact on the SBU of regulatory changes in other regions
  • Proactive and directed cross-SBU interaction to minimize cost and maximize compliance performance.
  • Coordinating new and refresher product stewardship compliance training for all SBU function. 
This position is also responsible for managing requests for Product Stewardship support from all IC customers in the region. This includes developing and implementing innovative solutions to provide customers with product information in order to support their compliance programs. Support must be provided consistently, efficiently, and compliant with PPG policies in order to minimize liability and support SBU profitability.

Required Minimum Qualifications  
  • Bachelor’s degree; science degree preferred
  • 5 – 10 years product stewardship/product safety/regulatory affairs experience 
Functional and Technical Skills
 
The incumbent must be able to understand and clearly communicate technical information in English across functions and with all levels of the organization. The incumbent must demonstrate leadership through business acumen and technical expertise, and must have a track record of successful project implementations.
  • Proficiency in either Spanish or Portuguese would be desirable (but not mandatory).
  • Must have excellent organizational, time management and communication skills
  • Must have excellent problem solving skills
  • Must be able to work independently and with others in a self-managed team environment
