The Sr. IT Project Manager, located in Pittsburgh, PA will act as the primary liaison to the end customer and various stakeholders to communicate project activities.
Individuals in this job position perform work at the senior level within this job family. The Project Manager job family forms part of the Project Management track within the IT function. Members of this family lead work teams, consisting of associates from a wide variety of functions inside and outside of IT, and assume responsibility for project initiatives. As project management professionals, incumbents contribute to the achievement of business objectives by ensuring that customer solutions are delivered on time, on budget, to the agreed upon specification, and to the customer’s overall satisfaction.
Business
Senior Project Managers coordinate all activity for projects. As the main customer contact they are responsible for defining the scope on projects, setting and controlling customer expectations and maintaining the overall customer relationship. Incumbents co-manage the functional and technical track leads of the project and directly influence application design and project priorities. They contribute to the achievement of business objectives by identifying opportunities for effective use of technology and coordinating the development, implementation and support of IT solutions.
Senior Project Managers communicate regularly with internal and external customers, as appropriate, in order to ensure the delivery of high quality service and support. The Senior Project Manager maintains general knowledge of various business processes used by systems applications across PPG’s business units and may participate in the business support planning process. This includes analyzing department needs and planning/recommending appropriate applications systems to user departments and senior management. In this capacity, they must maintain awareness of current IT projects within PPG and planned projects in their own IT group to promote application sharing.
Technical
The Senior Project Manager is an experienced project management professional. They provide leadership on one or more projects and give direction to both PPG employees and contract resources. Incumbents must have the ability to develop and maintain fully integrated project plans which specify project goals, deliverables, staffing, scheduling, risk assessment, contingency planning, resource allocation and cost analysis. They are responsible for monitoring and reporting to management on the status of project efforts and are held accountable for controlling project plans and costs. This includes consulting with management to review project proposals to determine goals, time frame, and procedures for accomplishing project staffing requirements and allotment of resources.
Senior Project Managers possess knowledge of commonly used and emerging concepts, practices, and procedures for full the product development life cycle. They assure that project team members adhere to internal standards, established methodologies and procedures for project reporting, design, development, documentation, and quality assurance. They coordinate and often participate in the preparation of detailed specifications from which applications will be written. Incumbents understand the procedures and expected system performance associated with various applicable technologies.
Interpersonal
The Senior Project Manager is highly organized, articulate, detail-oriented, and comfortable leading and delegating within a team structure. Incumbents must be able to interact with individuals at all levels. They facilitate communication between technical and non-technical resources on a project. This includes the coordination of teams in different areas and regions, including external clients. Senior Project Managers foster and maintain good working-relationships with customers and IT colleagues to meet expected customer service levels. They possess good coaching skills and regularly coach team members. As a team leader, they plan work for others to meet project deadlines.
