The SharePoint Functional Lead will take on a key role within the Collaboration Services team located in Pittsburgh, PA. This position is responsible for the design and implementation of SharePoint based solutions including gathering requirements, solution design, business and functional leadership, testing, project leadership, and deployment. SharePoint engagements range from enterprise portal design and implementation to line of business development, enterprise social media, business process integration, workflow, business intelligence, and general collaboration.
Business
The SharePoint Functional lead provides services to assigned customers in the definition and design of business processes and projects. This role will participate in the definition of specific IT projects to support business/function plans and processes. This includes research and identification of enabling technologies based on customer requirements.
Incumbents in this position are challenged to develop and maintain credibility and effective working relations with both customer management and IT personnel in a way that demonstrates an understanding of business problems, as well as IT strategies, issues, and priorities. They interact with other IT functional areas to remain apprised of project status and inform customer management of progress; conversely, they also keep the IT group's technology and service managers aware of current or future user issues. Incumbents facilitate development of business solutions that combine knowledge of particular business processes and issues, general or specific technological options, and process facilitation techniques. Additionally, this individual maintains awareness of technology trends across industries in specific functional disciplines. They use this knowledge to identify innovative solution alternatives for business opportunities.
Based on knowledge of assigned customer businesses/functions, incumbents are responsible for identifying opportunities to apply technologies to business processes. They inform and advise customers on information system technologies' functionality, costs, benefits, and implementation requirements.
Technical
A SharePoint Functional lead has a deep technical knowledge of SharePoint, SharePoint development, and the SharePoint app model. Proficiency with tools for SharePoint configuration and customization, including SharePoint Designer, Infrastructure, and PowerShell. The Functional lead can take functional and non-functional requirements, apply architectural design criteria, and produce artifacts describing the logical and physical design of IT solutions scaled for the enterprise. When appropriate, they will also develop and prototype. They should be comfortable estimating the amount of work required to develop custom solutions, and leading development projects to meet those commitments.
They are responsible for maintaining knowledge of all phases of business specific technology implementations. Incumbents actively seek ways to apply technology to business processes, researching and providing information on technical trends and competitors' practices relevant to the assigned business or function. They assess near-term needs, using structured interview processes to establish business priorities; consult with technical subject matter experts (such as Systems Consultants, IT Managers, Senior Systems Analysts and other Consultants) and develop alternative technical solutions. The SharePoint Functional lead will advise on options, risks, costs versus benefits, and impact on other business processes and system priorities.
Interpersonal
The SharePoint Functional lead may be called upon to broker services within the IT community on behalf of customers. They coordinate solutions and clarify interdependencies so that systems appear seamless to customers. Incumbents must forge relationships within the business or function that they serve as well as maintain rapport with other IT groups. Negotiation, influencing and getting to consensus are key attributes of the successful Analyst.
Incumbents develop and maintain credibility and effective working relations with both customer management and IT personnel. Additionally, they may need to develop, motivate, and direct staff to create a team environment and enable staff to fulfill the department's operating objectives.
