Supervise, plan and organize all day to day activities involved in the receipt, distribution and external shipment of laboratory supplies and materials (e.g. chemicals, gases, dry ice, perishable samples, lab apparatus and equipment, etc.) This includes establishing and maintaining policies, procedures, and systems that will facilitate end user satisfaction, operational efficiency and record keeping accuracy.
Verifies items against carrier's bill of lading/tracking information and sort's packages to be delivered to the laboratories and administrative areas.
Coordinates distribution of packages to various labs and administrative areas using department van, push cart, forklift or pallet jack. Operations Coordinators assure that S&R Clerks obtain a signature from the requester at the time of delivery.
Coordinate the daily package delivery of research samples, chemicals, equipment, laboratory and office supplies to clients NJ/PA sites following the established routes.
Processing of hazardous/non-hazardous perishable research samples, chemicals, laboratory equipment and supplies to be processed for outbound domestic and international shipping. Adherence to all shipping regulations, GHS labeling requirement and Global Trade Compliance must be followed.
Coordinates the collection of hazardous waste solvent containers from labs for disposal, replaces with empty waste container and maintains identity of the can. Oversee the process of pumping the solvent waste into the bulk tank. Coordinate, and oversee the offsite disposal of waste. Complete the weekly Inspection of hazardous waste storage areas, and inspection of the bulk tank system daily to assure regulatory compliance.
Oversee the collection of regulated medical waste. Assure containers are properly prepared for disposal and processed for shipping as per the regulations.
Oversee the removal of hazardous / non-hazardous wastes from the laboratories on a daily basis, and maintain all associated documentation. Assure waste maintains identity into the hazardous waste storage area.
Assure that bar-coding of all chemicals received is completed.
Coordinate the collection of Hazardous/Non-hazardous perishable research samples, equipment and supplies from the labs to be processed for outbound shipping.
Coordinate and schedule personnel for the collection of empty chemical reagent containers and scan out barcodes from the chemical inventory tracking system.
Support the inventory, ordering, and replenishment of the solvent storage bunkers. Assure that accurate stocking levels are maintained.
Order and coordinate the replenishment of dry ice to the laboratories daily. Monitor usage and adjust levels as needed to minimize waste.
Coordinate the delivery of compressed gases to labs and connect regulators upon request.
Coordinate the logistics of equipment stored at offsite warehouse for lab personnel and vendor. Deliver to labs as requested.
Provide administrative support related to answering department phones, filing and completion of department paperwork.
Coach and develop shipping / receiving clerks on the quality of work and performance. Assure that service level expectations are met.
Work with team to assure that all safety training courses and performance reviews are completed in a timely manner.
Collect and provide operational metrics for reporting to client on a monthly basis.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or equivalent
1 – 3 years in a shipping and receiving environment
1 – 3 years of experience managing people
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES
Must maintain DOT, IATA, and RCRA certification
Must have a valid state issued driver’s license
KNOWLEDGEG, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge on the use of computers and programs
Knowledge of operating manual / electric pallet jacks, forklifts, van, and box truck.
