Job Summary: Performing assignments on a patrol basis or at a fixed post with responsibility for enforcing security measures. Duties and Responsibilities: Patrols Exchange facilities including retail store, warehouse, Navy Lodge, parking lots, storage rooms, etc., checking for breaches of security such as possible pilferage, unauthorized personnel, attempted entries, etc. Insures exterior doors, as well as any interior "security cage" type doors, are secured, windows are locked and lights turned off, etc. - Prepares Loss Prevention reports concerning security related incidents and advises superior of any unusual occurrences. - Checks identification to insure only authorized persons are permitted on the premises. Permits access to only those individuals having specific authority to enter facility during non-operating hours. Inspects the contents of packages and containers to assure only authorized items are being removed. - Checks and tests security and fire alarms to ensure proper working order and reports to supervisor or other designated individual any conditions that might constitute fire or accident hazards. - Provides customer assistance/information, as necessary. Furnishes information such as types of services available, hours of operation, etc., and/or directs them to location of desired merchandise/service. - Defuses aggressive confrontations using tact, courtesy and assertiveness. Detains individuals suspected of committing illegal acts and properly handles the evidence until the proper authorities arrive. - Works under the general supervision of a designated supervisor, who provides procedures, regulations and instructions concerning security functions. Advice and assistance is available in unusual situations. Review of work is made in terms of adequacy and compliance with applicable policies, procedures and instructions. - May be required to destroy/render unsuable merchandise which has been 'zero out' and keeps appropriate records. - Performs other related duties as assigned
No experience, training or education are required.
EVALUATION OF CANDIDATES: All guards are expected to bring to the job alertness, tact, integrity and ability to learn guard rules, regulations, pertinent laws, general and special orders and administrative procedures relating to security programs. Person-to-person contacts form an important and significant part of the total work of the guard and identification checker. Ability to communicate effectively is important to continued success.
