As a Director of Automation Engineering you would be leading multiple release engineering and systems integration teams for the Macys.com and Bloomingdale.com ecommerce platforms, hire and retain the best talent for the teams. You would be in charge of building and maintaining world-class services/automation platforms and keep them stable, scalable and available. You will be partnering with cross-functional engineering teams to come up with the technology strategy & guidelines and then oversee their adherence across multiple critical projects.
This role will be reporting to VP of Shared Services for Macys Digital Technology.
Essential Functions:
• Technical leader and manager of the release engineering teams. Responsible for hiring, retaining and mentoring talent;
• Own the technology roadmap for the release engineering systems and responsible for delivering successful projects for these systems;
• Responsible for portfolio and resource planning for your areas and planning and managing budget for your teams and projects;
• Partner and Collaborate with various cross functional teams like product management, process, project and program management, infrastructure, operations and business teams etc;
• Ensure successful execution of technical strategies, architecture guidelines and standard by efficient collaboration with architecture, development, DevOps and other teams;
• Own and manage the stability, availability and performance for your applications/systems.
Qualifications:
Education/Experience:
• 7 – 10 year of management experience at a Senior Manager/Director level in a release engineering/DevOps/Application development space supporting high volume consumer facing digital products
• 5 years of experience in managing and overseeing enterprise level programs which require extensive collaboration across various groups in a matrix organization
• 5 years proven leadership experience, coaching, developing and engaging technology teams
• 3 years of experience with open source technology technologies preferably within a high volume eCommerce environment
• Experience in operating high volume web sites in a distributed/multi-location and public cloud environment
• Strong understanding and demonstrated experience in agile software development in a fast paced internet delivery organization
• Devops mentality and committed to building a highly collaborative Devops culture and organization
• Demonstrated experience in using release automation tools and frameworks to deliver on-demand non-production and production environments
• Knowledge of software development process, tools, and practices
• Experienced in delivering software products leveraging public cloud IaaS and PaaS models
• Demonstrated knowledge of solving the problems of scale engineering for large web sites
• Experience with web serving technologies (apache, nginx, varnish), configuration management systems (puppet, chef), load balancing, proxy servers, CDN technologies like Akamai, Fastly, AWS CDN etc
Communication Skills:
• Demonstrated ability to lead both technical and non-technical discussions with both technical and non-technical end users
Reasoning Ability:
• Strong skills in critical thinking, problem solving, troubleshooting and analysis
Other Skills:
• Ability to adapt to a constantly changing environment with potentially conflicting priorities
