Maintenance Mechanic - Stockyards

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
  • Perform necessary repairs and maintenance to production equipment (i.e. multivac, wrapping, packaging machines) to insure that adequate machinery is available for operations. Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical malfunctions to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Maintain and repair, in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals and manufacturer’s specifications, machinery and mechanical equipment, such as electric Motors, pneumatic tools, conveyors, band saws , grinders, and production machines and equipment, using hand tools, power tools, and precision-measuring and testing instruments. 
  • Must have the ability to observe operating equipment listen to their sounds to locate causes of trouble.
  • Must have the ability to dismantle equipment to gain access to and to remove and replace defective parts and complete performance tests on repaired equipment.
  • Needs to have some a/c or refrigeration experience.
  • May be required to weld and burn
 
  • Mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic troubleshooting and repair of packaging and production equipment
 
  • Review any equipment reports submitted by associates, record actions/repairs taken, and maintains a repair log per USF policy.
 
  • Complete preventative maintenance on equipment, conveyor systems and production machines following diagrams, sketches and manufactures operator’s manuals. Maintain PM log with proper documentation, per USF policy
 
  • Comply with all USF and government guidelines regarding safety when working on equipment (i.e. Lock Out/Tag Out, placarding and required documentation, safe work environment, etc.)
 
  • Responsible for company tools and maintenance equipment used in performance of job duties, including inventory maintenance, safe operation, proper storage, and security of tool area.
 
  • If authorized, may purchase tools and other equipment needs from local vendors to perform required duties.

Education/Training: High School education or equivalent preferred; additional mechanic training or trade school degree preferred.

 

Related Experience:

 
  • 3-5 years Electrical, HVAC, General Mechanical, plumbing knowledge preferred.
 
 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Knowledge of equipment repair and operation; able to repair and overhaul warehouse equipment; welding ability; able to read and write legibly; able to follow orders; basic mathematical skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide); able to work with little direct supervision.  Knowledge of all phases of building and equipment, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, refrigeration). Able to work well with others under high pressure situations, strong interpersonal skills.
