SUPERVISOR, VIDEO OPERATIONS

AT&T - NEW HAMPTON, New Hampshire

DIRECTV's Uplink Facility Technical Services Department is seeking a Site Supervisor to work at the uplink facility located in New Hampton, NH.
 
 The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
 
  • Ensure consistent, high quality analog and digital television signal transports and satellite transmissions.
  • Installation, diagnosis and maintenance of critical on-air video, audio, RF, baseband, signal processing, transport and transmission equipment.  This responsibility includes DirecTV’s Mpeg 2 and Mpeg 4 Broadcast transmissions streams and all associated Local Collection Facilities, Broadcast Centers, Ground station Equipment, and associated Monitor and Control hardware.
  • Supervision of the Technical Services staff including employee scheduling
  • Oversee daily operations and technical issues. Prepare & submit detailed weekly status reports for site specific issues & on-going initiatives.
  • Oversee installation and cabling of new equipment into the facility (Engineering and Vendor/Contract support)
  • Proficiency in a variety of television broadcast, transport, and transmission equipment. That will include but not limited to:
    • High power transmitters (Klystron & Travelling Wave Tube)
    • Antenna tracking systems
    • Up/Downlink signal processors
    • Video receivers
    • Digital video compression systems
    • Analog and digital audio/video distribution amplifiers and routers
    • Analog-to-digital and digital-to analog converters
    • Fiber transmitters, fiber receivers and optical cabling
    • Video and audio monitoring systems
    • Reference pulse and time code systems
    • CISCO systems routers
    • Digital Transport Stream Analyzers
    • Video over IP transmission hardware
    • Modulation and demodulation hardware
    • Antenna De-Ice subsystems
  • Proficiency in site facility systems, assist with vendor service contracts and emergency building system repairs as needed.
  • Detailed knowledge of site layout, mechanical & electrical architecture. (CRAC units, Chillers, pumps, Generator, Transfer Switch, UPS & Battery systems, Fire Alarm & Sprinkler system…etc
  • Review of daily Incident & Task tickets, Change Tickets, scheduled maintenance and technician work log entries. Coaching of personnel for accurate and detailed information in log entries.
  • Scheduling & Prioritization of RUF maintenance
  • Attendance of daily Broadcast OPS and Technical Review board meetings to coordinate issues across sites.
  • Training and development of new and existing employees. Documentation of Core Competencies completion and Technical Qualifications for professional growth.
  • Ensuring a collaborative, team oriented work environment, and addressing any personnel conflicts in adherence with current HR policies. Must be capable of initiating and sustaining Corrective/Disciplinary actions if/when necessary.
  • Weekly review & approval of timecards for non-exempt employees. Review & approval of overtime, vacation requests.
  • Review & approval of expense reports & travel receipts for site personnel
  • Vendor contracts and generation of purchase orders.
  • Maintain site operation expense budgets and completion of weekly invoice approvals.
  • Ensure site asset inventory accuracy including shipping/receiving.
  • Ensure adequate levels of site equipment sparing.
  • Organize and schedule routine preventative maintenance on various subsystems.
  • Assist in project research, design, planning, implementation, procedure documentation and training.
  • EHS compliance of Technical Staff and SPCC coordinator functions
  • Complete mid-year & annual performance evaluations and appraisals of Technical staff
  • Draft & Submission of Promotion Justification documents for employees when applicable, adhering to current HR requirements.
  • Must operate with a mindset of inclusion & transparency, freely sharing information with personnel across various departments.
  • Summarize and Present Technical information in both verbal and written form
  • Ensure that all common site procedures & workflows are captured in well documented SOP’s and maintain a RUF/DUF specific set of regularly updated process flows.
  • Front Line representation of DIRECTV RCO organization with various local vendors.
  • Coordinating with internal Engineering/Broadcast Project groups for PDR/CDR/Implementation phases of projects. Ensure local site documentation is kept updated & accurate.
  • Occasional travel to represent site at Technical/Operational design meetings
Qualifications
 
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred (1 year).
  • Associates degree, certificate or equivalent specialized training in electronics and/or related systems is preferred.
  • 3-5 years technical maintenance or equivalent military experience with electronics, communication, television broadcast or Earth Station processes and equipment
  • Experience should include knowledge in troubleshooting, analyzing relationships between components within television systems and IT transport systems, conducting routine maintenance and utilizing transport and spectrum analyzers, waveform/vector scopes, and other test equipment.
  • Experience installing cabling and new equipment, interpreting wiring diagrams/schematics and working with engineers to test and integrate new systems.
  • Must possess knowledge with LAN, WAN, and computer technologies including the ability to learn various computer applications and internal programs critical to television broadcast processing and transport.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Must have the ability to work in a dynamic, fast paced environment with changing priorities.
  • Physical requirements:
    • Must have the ability to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
    • Ability to climb external antenna system ladders and work at heights up to 30 ft.
    • Dexterity to work in confined spaces down to 16 cubic ft.
    • Ability to work inclement weather.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must have a valid state driver’s license with no restrictions.
  • All candidates must be willing to carry a company provided on-call phone, participate in a cyclic on-call rotation, and must reside less than 45 minute drive time from the main uplink facility.
  • Must have a negative pre-employment drug test.
  • Criminal and MVR background must meet company hiring criteria.
  • The uplink facility is a 24x7 facility and requires the ability to work various shifts, including holidays and overtime as necessary to support the on-air mission.
  • Minimal travel via commercial airline required on occasion (<25% travel)
