Supervisor, Fleet Maintenance

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:   

Determine schedules, sequences, and assignments for work activities, based on work priority, quantity of equipment and skill of personnel.

 

Monitor employee’s work levels and review work performance.

 

Monitor tool and part inventories and the condition and maintenance of shops to ensure adequate working conditions.

 

Compile operational and employment records, such as time and production, inventory data, repair and maintenance records.

 

Counsel employees about work-related issues and assist employees to correct job-skill deficiencies.

 

Conduct or arrange for worker training in safety, repair, and maintenance techniques, operational procedures, or equipment use.

 

Inspect and monitor work areas, examine tools and equipment, and provide employee safety training to prevent, detect, and correct unsafe conditions or violations of procedures and safety rules.

 

Requisition materials and supplies, such as tools, equipment and replacement parts.

 

Participate in budget preparation and administration, coordinating purchasing and documentation, and monitoring departmental expenditures.

 

Meet with vendors and suppliers to discuss products used in repair work.

 

Compute estimates and actual costs of factors such as materials, labor, and outside vendors. Review, evaluate, accept, and coordinate completion of work bids from vendors.

 

Ensure all OSHA and EPA regulations are followed, and proper documentation is completed.

Education/Training: High School Diploma or GED is required. CDL preferred.

 

Related Experience/Requirements: Five plus years’ fleet experience with a minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience required. Preventive maintenance programs knowledge strongly desired. Technical Training and experience working on Freon based refrigeration units preferred. Knowledge of tractor/trailer, and lift gate expereince required.


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Good interpersonal skills, detail-oriented, ability to communicate effectively, negotiation, self-starter, ability to prioritize and be “hands on”. Must possess good knowledge of all aspects of fleet maintenance. Experience in budgeting and financial reporting. Great people skills; able to work with people at all levels within the organization including outside vendors. Must have a strong refrigeration repair and heating/cooling units background.
