Staff Accountant

Books-A-Million - Corporate Office, AL

The Staff Accountant applies accounting principles to analyze financial data, prepare journal entries, and prepare account reconciliations. The Staff Accountant will work as a key member of the corporate accounting team. This role requires analytical thinking and attention to detail.

 

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Preparation of monthly journal entries for various subsidiaries including recording month-end accruals, allocations, amortizations, etc.
  • Prepare and maintain account reconciliations.
  • Assist in managing fixed assets across all subsidiaries including preparing weekly capitalization reports for distribution to executive management.
  • Provide assistance with the accounts receivable function including invoice preparation, processing collections and performing month-end reconciliation.
  • Complete special projects as needed.
  • Perform all other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Associate degree in Accounting or related field required; Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance preferred
  • Previous accounting experience preferred
  • Experience working with larger accounting systems a plus (i.e. Lawson, Oracle)
  • Detail oriented and comfortable analyzing large volumes of data
  • Demonstrated research and problem solving skills
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills a must

Physical and Environmental Requirements

  • Must be able to sit at a computer or desk for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to use hands/arms to operate keyboard, telephone and for repetitive motion activities.
  • Must be able to lift objects up to 25 lbs. with or without assistance.
  • Must be able to communicate using speech, sight, and sound with or without assistive device.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, stoop or crouch while performing daily activities of the job.
