Key Responsibilities:

As a Coatings Production Operator for PPG, your career can have tremendous potential. It makes for a fast-paced, high-energy work environment where you will be continually challenged and encouraged to grow.

The coatings production operator is responsible for manufacturing batches of paint and other liquid coatings -- mixing, thinning, milling, and filling, for many Fortune 500 manufacturing customers throughout the world.  Operators will follow a production schedule and make batches of paint and other coatings, ranging in size from 20 gallons to 4,000 gallons.  The operator will gather the raw materials and verify the materials with a scanner.  The operator will add liquid and powder raw material chemicals into tanks with agitators to mix the product, using various types of material handling equipment (i.e. forklift, drum dumper, etc.).  The operator grinds the coating pastes using a mechanical mill to an appropriate consistency, run process tests on the material to assure the optimum grind has occurred and then add liquid thinning materials to the paste to obtain the appropriate viscosity for the coating.

The operator performs mathematical calculations and records information needed to print labels, label containers, pull samples, fill containers and accurately enter information into the inventory system.  Operators are also responsible for filling the finished product into the appropriate container:  5-gallon pail, drum, tote or tank wagon. Coatings production involves using hoses and stationary pressurized piping to move raw materials to the batch or finished goods to a container.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Good math skills and mechanical ability
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to enter data into a computer system and create/print a variety of labels using label-making software
  • Capable of operating a forklift
  • Ability to retain information, strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively work on a team.
  • Some overtime required
  • Ability to lift 50lbs. regularly during a shift.
PPG prides itself on the quality of its employees and as such, candidates who receive a job offer will be required to successfully pass a hair drug/toxins test, thorough physical and background check.
