Key Responsibilities
The Plant Chemist, located in Brazil, IN (40 minutes West of Indianapolis), is primarily responsible for providing hands-on technical support to manufacturing through scale-ups, troubleshooting, lab experiments, and by providing technical expertise and making recommendations for various phases of production. He/she will use his/her technical experience to play a major role in aiding production departments in the manufacture of industrial coatings to satisfy customer requirements to achieve growth, according with the Industrial Coatings business vision, values and strategy.
Major accountabilities:
The incumbent is responsible for the processability of formulas as measured by FRC, control of variances and elimination of defective or sub-standard products.
Execute all technical related activities related to manufacturing zero-defects products with a high sense of urgency in support of the Industrial Coatings growth strategy, with responsibility for product decisions and analysis, in order to satisfy customer requirements.
Address quickly all local and on-line issues due to product manufacturing issues.
Use his/her experience to independently lay out plans and experiments to be run, and solves problems through the creative use of technical and scientific knowledge.
Handle multiple projects concurrently and complex activities.
Interact effectively with other functions, integrate input from various sources and adapt accordingly to achieve success. May also need to interact efficiently with customers.
Promote experimental design where/when it applies.
Capable of utilizing the computer system. Understand databases and ability to manipulate them. Ability to prepare a variety of reports for both internal and external use.
May need to provide training to production people if required
Efficiently utilize and optimize resources, equipment, materials, budget, formulation practices to deliver the business objectives related to sales, profitability, quality, cost and responsiveness and to best support the Industrial Coatings business model.

Minimum Required Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate technical discipline (i.e. Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering)
A minimum of 3 years of experience in Coatings technology
Experience in Coil technology and its manufacturing principles is preferred but not required.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work in a dynamic and high pressure environment with competing priorities.
