The Supervisor is responsible for planning and directing activities of hourly employees to ensure that all established key performance goals for the department are realized in a cost effective and timely manner.  S/he maintains a safe working environment through inspection, observation, and enforcement of safety and housekeeping standards.  S/he is responsible to train, counsel, and motivate hourly employees and foster good employee relations through fair and equitable administration of the Labor Agreement.

 

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Developing new and in improving existing manufacturing methods that will increase efficiency and improve quality and safety.
  • Supervisor inputs information daily into database systems; WEMS, CAIR, etc. and completes various batch tickets, production reports, safety reports, and general verbal and written communications regarding department and employee activities.
  • Responsibility for the production area including management of labor and expense costs, inventory levels, batch quality, reproducibility, formulation optimization and asset utilization.  Lead teams in problem solving, strategic project management, and/or driving for improvement in key plant metrics.  S/he will conduct safety observations, identify and implement safety improvement projects. 
  • Successfully participate in developing an individual goal document (PLP) and accomplishing its goals.  The Supervisor must analyze and provide solutions to a wide range of production problems from manpower utilization to asset management.  Continuous learning, creativity, and the ability to solicit and implement the creative ideas of others are clear requirements of this job.  Project and task requirements can differ significantly form day to day, requiring good time management skills to successfully handle workload variation. 
 
Minimum Required Qualifications:
  • 5 or more years of production or engineering experience.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively and work with people at all levels in various organizations. 
  • Supervisor will have developed a considerable knowledge of and impact plant processes and have developed problem solving, communication, and conflict resolution skills, which enable reaching consensus during problem solving.  
  • Effective verbal and writing skills are important for successful completion of projects, training, reports, funds requests, etc. 
  • The Supervisor should have demonstrated effective typing, spreadsheet, and database skills and familiarity with Access or other data gathering and analysis tools is preferred. 
  • Due to the extensive dealings with people and management of Union labor relations, this position demands good interpersonal skills.
