This position is directly responsible for maintenance and improvement of all of the application equipment/processes in the Oak Creek Automotive Coatings Applications lab.  He/ she will report directly to the Automotive  Technical Manager on site with a functional reporting to the Applications Manager in Cleveland. The incumbent will manage his/her area compliant with all PPG policies, procedures and business objectives, and consistent with Oak Creek’s production and technical demands.  The incumbent will share responsibility for Environmental, Health and Safety requirements, 5S, cleanliness, and troubleshooting with the Applications specialist.  Specifically they will be responsible for

 

60% - Physical / Hard Assets

1.        Knowledge of coatings applications equipment.   including set up – 20%

2.        Troubleshooting – automated spray equipment, atomizers , spray lines, - 10%

3.        Managing Improvements to equipment – 30%

 

40% - Process

1.        Training – Management of change, new applications, changes, 5%

2.        Line to lab correlation – interfacing with Tech service reps and Launch team to correlate customer lines – 10%

3.        Machine to Machine Correlation – Helping technical transfer products from machine to machine, equipment set up, new programs – 5%

4.        Ensure sprayroom meets safety requirements – 5%

5.        Develops expertise in application equipment through relationships with equipment suppliers and other sprayroom experts – 15%

Required Minimum Qualifications:
 

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering plus 1 – 5 years in a coatings lab, application development center or customer line.

  
Required Skills:
 

1.        Demonstrates active knowledge on the complexity and intricate nature of the painting process

2.        Proven ability to read, audit and utilize engineering prints, equipment manuals, or process maps to solve problems

3.        Ability to solve problems through application knowledge

4.        Consults effectively with launch coordinators, formulators, field service, and plant engineering

5.        Proven ability to use engineering, equipment, and application process knowledge to design, build and test paint process equipment

6.        Able to communicate effectively and actively participate with ATSEL, technical, manufacturing, and service teams on projects and assignments

7.        Demonstrates ability to work independently or as part of a cross functional team.  Seeks out knowledge; engineering design concepts or clarification from appropriate sources

8.        Finds ways to proceed despite obstacles.

9.       Speaks with an engineering perspective; thinks like a customer process engineer while consulting with PPG coatings formulators
