The Sr. Engineered Systems Administrator is responsible for the administration of Oracle Engineered Systems platform for the enterprise, which includes Exadata, Exalogic and Exalytics systems. This individual will have responsibilities that include management and administration of the hardware, platform software, hypervisor, clusterware, virtual machine infrastructure, storage, internal systems network, support application installation and management in an enterprise data center environment, providing  24x7 system administration support to assigned systems.

Essential Functions

Strategy & Planning

  • Contribute to platform migration strategies for Engineered Systems.
  • Provide input to creation of rolling maintenance plan of all engineered systems to minimize business downtime.
  • Assist in creating quarterly work plan of activities in support of customer/vendor goals and/or strategies.
  • Partner with business, technical, and vendor contacts to discuss the requirements and help develop solution design/ system architecture.
  • Contribute to capacity and scalability planning efforts.
  • Develop standards and guidelines to guide infrastructure strategy.

Acquisition & Deployment

  • Provide platform technical specifications for enterprise application deployments, ensuring the optimal utilization of Engineered Systems platform.
  • Upgrade/migrate the platform technology software versions.
  • Plan, coordinate and implement security measures to safeguard information against accidental or unauthorized damage, modification or disclosure.
  • Participate in server hardware/software lifecycle management.

Operational Management

  • Participate in the design, engineering, configuration, operation and maintenance of secure and scalable enterprise hardware and software infrastructure.
  • Establish and maintain working relationship with representatives from the customer/vendor.
  • Document installation and configuration standards for Engineered Systems and applications deployed on this platform.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues affecting enterprise hardware and platform software infrastructure.
  • Develop and maintain understanding of key processes, schedules, cycles, profiles, etc. for the technical systems in use by a customer. 
  • Provide regular, clear, and consistent communication (written and oral) on the status of projects, issues, and deliverables to representatives from the customer/vendor. 
  • Ability to plan and complete projects based on high-level requirements with minimal or no guidance.
  • Mentor and coach junior engineered systems administrator.
  • Perform activities in support of a 24x7 global support model for all environments.
  • Work with vendor technical support to facilitate analysis of and resolution to technical issues.
Incidental Functions
  • Monitor the Engineered Systems platform to identify and recommend alternatives/enhancements.
  • Maintain current knowledge of the technology workspace in terms of current state, future possibilities, forthcoming technologies, and their relevance and impact.
  • Implement disaster planning/mitigation/recovery.
  • Evaluate new technologies and conduct product proof of concepts.
  • Assist with various projects as may be required to contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of the work.
  • Participate in hiring activities and fulfilling affirmative action obligations and ensuring compliance with the equal employment opportunity policy. 
  • Minimal travel is required.
  • Work outside the standard office 7.5 hour workday may be required.
Position Requirements

Formal Education & Certification
  • Bachelor Degree or foreign equivalent in related field, or equivalent experience.
Knowledge & Experience
  • 5 years IT experience.
  • 5 years experience in Unix/Linux System Administration
  • Knowledge of hardware platforms, networking, storage and subsystems.
  • Strong knowledge of the Linux operating system and Virtualization technologies  
  • Experience with Installation/Upgrade/Patching of server hardware and platform software.
  • Experience with backup/recovery design, DR implementation, monitoring implementation, performance tuning and optimization.
  • Knowledge of Storage management, provisioning, and optimization.
  • Understand and execute the IT processes of Incident Management, Problem Management, Change Management, and Configuration Management. 
  • Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Experience in developing documentation, white papers and presentations to all levels of management and technical staff.
  • Experience with supporting platform running enterprise Oracle Databases and Middleware Applications.
Preferred Knowledge
  • Exposure/ Experience with administering Engineered Systems (Exadata, Exalogic & Exalytics)
  • Experience with installing, configuring Oracle Virtual Machines, managing OVM templates is a plus.
  • Good understanding of fundamental technologies like TCP/IP, HTTP, FTP, SMTP, DNS, Load balancer, NFS.
  • Experience in Oracle Grid infrastructure.
  • Experience in Weblogic application server or equivalent (Websphere or Jboss)
  • Knowledge of LDAP concepts and experience integrating servers with an LDAP.
  • Experience in maintaining security compliance and security best practices.
