Seeking a candidate to fill a Communications Engineer II position to support an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Office of Chief Information Officer (OCIO) program. Specifically, the Communication Engineer must provide incident outage coordination, notification, escalation and incident reporting to key stakeholders.
The Communications Engineer should possess the following qualities:
Be ITIL trained with three (3) years of experience (certification preferred but not required)
Strong analytical mind
Strong sense of urgency
Must possess organizational, multitasking and prioritization skills.
Ability to communicate clearly via phone, email and chat.
Ability / comfort to ask questions and at times question information being provided to them from various sources (to include end users, engineers, the CIO and other VIPs as needed).
Communications Engineer duties include, but are not limited to:
Full range of Incident Management activities, such as monitoring, notification, escalations, coordination, etc.
Coordinate information gathering / sharing with internal and external support resources.
Maintain continuous coordination within the I/PCT to act on any identified trends and coordinate with the application / site owners as needed.
Maintain continuous coordination with Tier 1 Intake to ensure monitoring of inbound calls.
Update the Action Request System to ensure an accurate timeline and record of events for any outage.
Keep incidents in check and provide active management of statuses, resolution information and root cause analysis.
Establish conference bridges with all relevant stakeholders and record call minutes.
Monitor enterprise-wide applications, identify mission essential applications and ensure special procedures are enacted accordingly.
Manage interfaces, reports, and escalations for special systems
Recommend business process and system improvements.
Conduct trend analysis for all incoming incidents.
Perform comparative analysis between reported incidents / maintenance / trends/etc
Coordinate IT incident prevention and / or response
Follow all Government SOPs to establish consistent situational reporting.
Minimum Education: - Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering, computer, telecommunications or related field. - Equivalent related technical experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Minimum Requirements:
Three (3) years of relevant experience on a wide variety of servers, desktops and networking and telecommunications technologies, protocols, equipment, concepts, architectures and trade studies.
Ability to troubleshoot network incidents and provide a resolution report to management and / or customer.
Ability to document solutions with MS Office products: Word, Excel, Visio, and Project.
Ability to effectively communicate, verbally and in writing, with management and peers.
Possess comprehensive knowledge in Network Engineering (CCNA, CCNP, DNS / DHCP, Firewall, VLAN, SAN, etc.) or Systems Engineering (e.g. AD / EX, MCSE, SharePoint) track.
Proficient with Cisco Switching, Multi Path high availability, GLBP, HSRP, QoS, routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP), WLAN, Prefix Lists, NAT, PAT, MPLS, VoIP, video, IDS / IPS, NAC, Cisco Wireless Access Points and firewalls.
Experience in various Windows OS versions, AD / EX.
Ability to develop and execute address plans for IPv4, IPv6 and ITU E.164.
