The Database Administrator (Performance Tuning) role is to evaluate, monitor, troubleshoot and implement performance tuning strategies, methodologies and techniques to improve and maintain the production databases for all Global Supply Chain business applications while ensuring high levels of data availability and performance. This individual is also responsible for collaborating database performance tuning with the Application Specialist for Performance Tuning. These two individuals will work together to address and application performance tuning across all enterprise Supply Chain Business applications. Performance assessrnents will investigate the total processing of key application environments with specific focus on addressing the SQL performance issues on the key business tasks and transactions. All project and support tasks must be completed consistent with Company goals, industry best practices and regulatory requirements while ensuring data protection and security in highly visible, mission critical environments.

Essential Functions
Strategy & Planning

• Assess and develop long-term strategic goals for tuning production databases in conjunction with software database vendors, application developers, data owners and department managers.
• Work with application development staff to develop database architectures, tuning & coding standards, and quality assurance policies and procedures where applicable.
• Assist in creating quarterly work plan of activities in support of customer/vendor goals and/or team strategy. Assist in determining resource requirements needed to support the activities.

Acquisition & Deployment
• Conduct research and make recommendations on database products, services, protocols, and standards in support of procurement and tuning efforts.
• Review project requests describing database performance to estimate time and cost required to successfully accomplish a project.
• Participate, with responsibility for some major deliverables, in the transition of support for new IT tuning solutions that have been implemented for customer by the Database Technical Services team or other implementation partners.

Operational Management
• Monitor database system details within the database, including stored procedures and execution time, and implement efficiency improvements.
• Develop routines for end users and application developers to facilitate best practices and tuning techniques
• Design, develop, and install enhancements, patches and upgrades to database systems and application software.
• Assume primary responsibility during problem resolution. Uses troubleshooting techniques to identify root cause and implements permanent corrective action to resolve issues.
• Provide guidance to database and application teams, where appropriate.
• Provide high level support to customers on a daily basis.
• Respond to database related queries and issues in a timely fashion.
• Monitor database activities on daily basis to ensure the reliability and security of databases.
• Ensure that database is properly tested and bugs are fixed appropriately.
• Assist in optimizing database for operational and performance efficiency.
• Assist in database management, maintenance and troubleshooting activities.
• Assist in database enhancements and modifications as per customer requests.
• Prepare database project status reports to management.
• Work with programmers, QA team and security personnel to execute database tuning projects according to customer requirements.

Incidental Functions
• Assist with projects as may be required to contribute to efficiency and effectiveness of the work.
• Attend management meetings on behalf of team.
• Working outside the standard office 7.5 hours workday as required; provide periodic 24/7 on-call support of specific functions.
• Some travel as required.

Position Requirements
Formal Education & Certification

• Bachelor degree or foreign equivalent in related field or equivalent experience.

Knowledge & Experience
• 5 years IT experience.
• 2 years applications experience (preferably with SQL application).
• 3-4 years experience working with Oracle database structures and architectures, theories, principles, and tuning practices.
• Technical experience with designing, building, installing, configuring and tuning Oracle database servers. Progress, SQL Server, MySQL and/or related database management technologies a plus).
• Proven database tuning and troubleshooting experience.
• Experience with data processing flowcharting techniques.
• Project management experience.
• Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
