Job Summary: Serves as manicurist, providing services involved in performing manicures and nail designs. Duties and Responsibilities: Carries out policy of courtesy and service. - Cuts, shapes, and affixes artificial nails. Adds filler for maintenance of nails. - Prepares fingernails for polishing by removing nail polish and/or designs currently on nails; cuts cuticles and/or nails, shapes nails and massages hands. - Performs nail wrapping with the use of nail glue, silk or linen wrapping, powder filling, etc. through the use of nail files, emery boards, etc. Ensures that nails are smooth for polishing. - Polishes nails using a base coat, color shield and top coat, ensuring that each is dry before applying next layer of polish. - As requested by patron, may paint geometric designs, apply silk designs, and/or perform air brushing and sculpting. - Examines patrons nails and cuticles for disorders, including nail disease, which may interfere with requested services. Advises patrons of nail care techniques. - Prepares beauty salon chit (SS/160), operates cash register and balances sales using salesperson's daily cash report (SS/120). Sells nail products to patrons. Assists in maintaining daily appointment book. Picks up shop keys from cashier's cage as required. - Maintains scissors and other tools in cleaning solution, ensuring that they are sanitized before and after each use. Makes necessary preparations of cotton swabs, nail polish and other working area in a clean and orderly manner. - Assists in taking monthly inventory. - Licensing from a state board is required. - Performs other related duties as assigned. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside a beauty salon setting with proper lighting, heating, adequate electric power and outlets for appliances. Incumbent is subject to the possibility of cuts, skin conditions, common cold and communicable diseases. Incumbent is exposed to fumes and unpleasant odors. Is required to wear a smock, wash hands thoroughly and frequently with soap and water, and sanitize tools after each use GENERAL EXPERIENCE: One year of experience that provided the applicant with knowledge and skill to carry out basic manicurist duties such as cutting and shaping nails and affixing artificial nails. SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: One year of high school education may be substituted for 3 months of general experience up to a High School Diploma or GED for one year of general experience. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of experience that provided the applicant with the knowledge and skill in performing manicurist services including, preparation of fingernails for polishing by removing nail polish and/or designs currently on nails; nail wrapping with the use of nail glue, silk or linen wrapping, powder filling, painting geometric designs, application of silk designs, and/or perform air brushing and sculpting, etc.
