Summary/Overview:  

The Visual Graphics Designer is responsible for strategizing the visual design of a learning asset in support of the Learning Performance Strategy. The goal is to engage the audience, and give visual form to information, ideas, and feelings to enhance audience performance.

 

Utilizing their knowledge of design fundamentals (typography and color theory), they build visual assets and ensure consistency across all designs for Macy's L&D.   Perform other duties as required.

 

This position can be seated in New York, NY, or Cincinnati, OH.

Responsibilities:

  • Partners with L&L Design team to produce the visual component of learning assets (print or digital) to meet the needs of the Learning Performance Strategy
  • Synthesizes ideas and feedback into a comprehensive creative direction that guides the overall look, feel, and tone of the visual design which will gain alignment, guide decision-making, and avoid personal preferences throughout the design process.
  • Leverages design principles to creatively combine visual elements including layout, color palette, font choices, hierarchy and imagery.
  • Designs visual assets and manages personal timelines to produce a quality product within the designated timeframe
  • Inform, persuade, educate and entertain using typography, photography, drawing, video/animation, audio, storytelling, interaction, and space
  • Build L&L brand assets (as needed) and ensure consistency across all the designs
  • Utilize Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign to do graphic work
  • Maintain proficiency in the tools needed for visual design and stay abreast of changes in the industry

Qualifications:

  • Education/Experience: Bachelors or equivalent with 2 years of Visual/Graphic Design experience.
  • Fundamental Design Knowledge: Use of colory theory and typography
  • Technically savvy: In the use of Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign
  • Communication Skills: : Excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Ability to read, and interpret design documents such as wireframes.Also need exceptional visual messaging skills to develop visual storylines.
  • General Coding knowledge: Create designs that take into account what is possible in the code, and communicate effectively with Producers
  • Active Listening & Questioning skills: Ability to bring a vision to life visually by asking clarifying questions to understand the learning strategy, the role visual element plays in the strategy, and to clearly synthesize feedback and visual need
  • Reasoning Ability: Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
