You will be a member of a 24x7x365 NOC team (shift work required). Your responsibilities will include proactively monitoring, analyzing, and troubleshooting networks, and rapidly taking actions to resolve network events in real time; guiding transport and OSP field technicians in resolving faults quickly and restoring service; operating a complex transport and services network made up of both legacy and new technologies.
Legacy technologies such as analog over copper, DS0/1/3 TDM (IMACS/ADC/CAC/TelCo), SONET OCxxx (CISCO/Fujitsu), DWDM (CISCO), telephone remote terminals (Fujitsu NBS/Tellabs DMAX/GPON), and moe modern technologies such as IP and OTN transport (Ciena/CISCO) providing layer 2 IP transport and VoIP/UC services to the desktop.
The NOC also monitors, reports, and initiates resolution of alarms on access control, generators, power ATS, battery plants, and air conditioning systems at 20 COs and microwave locations across the state of Hawaii. SKILLS: The ideal candidate will have a passion for excellence and continual process improvement, combined with strong interpersonal skills; be capable of innovative thinking in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment; possess strong customer service and communication skills to ensure customer satisfaction and network reliability; have strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills across multiple networks and will have the ability to guide maintenance activities as well as fault isolation, testing, and repairs.
EXPERIENCE: At least 5 years experience in telecommunications and/or a Network Operations Center environment. Experience with configuration of network devices, such as those listed under the Job Description paragraph. Ability to work in an organized fashion with a focus on documenting activity, following processes, and escalating events. Ability to work independently with little supervision/guidance; experience with one or more of the following: alarm surveillance, fault management, configuration management, LAN/WAN maintenance, and/or performance management; experence with provisioning one or more of the following: ONS15454 MSPP/MSTP, Ciena 6500, DMAX1000/1100, CISCO switches, routers, CUCM, SONUS, analog Voice Gateways; general understanding of network topologies, both legacy and IP transport/networking; ability to work as a team in a dynamic environment and to direct troubleshooting, configuration, and restoration of network services across multiple networks and systems using multiple EMS applications; experience with one or more of the following EMS: NetSmart, CTC, Thales Element Manager, Ciena 1Control, Tellabs Panorama/PON, HPNNMi, CISCOWorks, CUCM; a willingness to take ownership of actionable tickets, insuring documentation of all activity performed (troubleshooting steps performed, results, customer interactions, etc.).
EDUCATION: Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent work experience.
Must be a US Citizen and possess or be able to obtain a Secret Clearance (existing secret clearance is a plus)
Desired: Previous military service or military base/site work experience; Cisco CCENT or work toward obtaining CCENT/CCNA; Security certification; positive attitude and high level of self-initiative; flexibility to occasionally work an unusual schedule due to absences and vacations.
