Lead UX Designer - Voice
Description:
At Target’s New Ventures team in San Francisco you will have the chance to build ground-breaking products and change the lives of millions of our guests via smart, connected products. You will work on a team of designers, strategists, and engineers all working towards transforming Target’s business. You’ll work at the intersection of UX, design, and development, to create innovative experiences that bridge the physical and digital.
Your role on the team will start with a focus on designing voice experiences (e.g. Google Home, Alexa, Cortana, Siri). Although, an ideal candidate strives to flex their skills into other areas of the team.
Responsibilities:
* Determine user needs and experience in all voice related projects
* Work with research team to create and run project related studies
* Keep on top of latest voice trends, tech developments, and best practices
* Inform best practices for voice at Target and share with other teams
* Align voice experience decisions with brand values
* Stay on top of technical requirements and limitations, while pushing boundaries
* Experiment with commercial and experiential voice ideas
* Create and test new products and experiences
* Hands on impact by building iterative prototypes with other designers and engineers
* Identify and test opportunities to enhance the user experience, given the limitations of voice as an interface
* Write scripts in collaboration with copywriters
* Create audio experience in collaboration with sound designers
* Integrate voice experience with relevant screen touchpoints
Requirements:
* 5 years industry experience
* Bachelors in Graphic Design, Fine Arts, HCI, CS, New Media, or related field
* A portfolio that demonstrates your ability to design consumer products that span from digital to physical
* Solid understanding of interaction design patterns related to web and mobile design
* Ability to quickly test and iterate
* Experience working with researchers, anthropologists, ethnographers
* Experience with Internet of Things products and services (IFTTT, Nest, Smart Things, etc.)
* Experience working in rapid and changing environments
* Expert with standard design tools (Adobe, Sketch, InVision, etc.)
* A defined process for how you approach problems and designing solutions
* Basic front-end development knowledge and ability to communicate effectively with developers
* Works iteratively, continuously prototyping
* Strong, clean visual design sensibility
Preferred Skills:
* Strong language/linguistic skills
* Sound design experience
* Experience designing for voice interfaces
* Coding experience (Javascript a plus)
* Love of data driven design and desire to work collaboratively with analytics and research
