About us:
Target is an iconic brand, a Fortune 50 company and one of America’s leading retailers.
Right on pace with Target’s distinctive retail brand, Target Finance and Accounting are transforming for the better. As so much more than a behind-the-scenes number-cruncher, you will be a truly collaborative partner with a seat at the table. You’ll bring your unique point of view, experience and passion for the work to your team and internal clients. Within Property Tax, you’ll enjoy the interesting challenges of the competitive retail space, and you’ll have a 360-degree impact—rather than own just one part of the business. You’ll see your contributions come to life in virtually every area of this dynamic enterprise. And you’ll grow and be challenged in your career while having a healthy balance with life outside of work. A role in the Tax/Property Tax calls on a strong emphasis on attention to detail and curiosity. These skills will support your work including: analyzing lease language, reviewing and paying tax bills, and tenant rebill. This role also provides thoughtful and responsive support, expertise and guidance to business partners throughout the company. It will also rely on your accounting skills to serve as the back up to the Property Accountant. Your role will be critical to ensuring the success of Target’s business initiatives and core retail operations.
Working within Property Tax, your mission will be to help ensure Target’s properties are assessed fair and equitable to similar properties and that the appropriate taxes are paid timely. You will act as a brand ambassador to our external vendors in addition to the all of the governmental agencies Property Tax deals with on a daily basis.
As a Property Tax Analyst (“PTA”), you will assist in the analysis, reporting and compliance of the real estate and personal property tax program for Target and its operating companies. Our PTA works side by side Senior Property Tax Managers to; accurately maintain the property tax department’s database, analyze and record assessment notices, analyze tax notices for changes in laws and reporting requirements. This roll involves independent research for compliance issues including searching for missing tax bills to ensure accurate and timely tax payments, working with landlords on Target’s tax liability, and collecting tax payments from tenants leasing from Target. PTA partners with managers to prepare annual tax forecast by location. This process involves research of tax rates, incentives, assessing ratios, property tax laws, prior audit or appeal results, and current store status. PTA will complete true-ups based on the department’s calendar. Lastly, this role provides for day-to-day coordination with third party consultants including, but not limited to: tracking appeal progress, reviewing due dates and initial review of consultant invoices. This role also serves as the backup for our property tax accountant. Core responsibilities of this job are described within this job description. Job duties may change at any time due to business needs.
