Government Senior Specialist System Design Engineer

AT&T - GREAT FALLS, Virginia

Candidate(s) for this position would be a key member(s) of an operations team responsible for network engineering and administration support for multiple service applications involving WAN/LAN communications networks. Specifically the candidate would be responsible for engineering design and network operational support activities, e.g., installation, circuit ordering, configuration, applications monitoring and diagnostics, fault isolation and management, maintenance and repair for routers, switches, muxes, load balancers, and network security devices. Tasking will also require trouble ticket generation and management, and configuration control.

  • Candidate(s) may be required to learn and maintain new third party applications hardware and software.
  • Documentation of standard operating procedures and/or job aides may be required as needed.
  • Candidate(s) must be able to coordinate and partner with various work centers, network engineers/administrators, and customer organizations in the execution of daily tasks.

This is a Tier 2/Tier 3 support position, so candidate(s) must be prepared to be on-call 24X7 on a scheduled basis. No Relocation offered. Required Skills, Certification, Experience, and Education:

  • A bachelors degree preferably in Computer Science, Engineering or related technical field as well as a minimum of 4 -6 years relevant network engineering experience in an operational WAN/LAN environment.
  • 4 years additional relevant networking experience may be substituted to meet the B.S. degree requirement.
  • Primary responsibilities require proven experience in Juniper and/or Cisco router administration and management, F5 load balancers, data communications, TCP/IP, network support services (such as Network Time Protocol services, DNS, user authentication systems, logging systems, IDS systems, anti-virus systems, etc), applications monitoring and diagnostics using tools such as Solarwinds or Splunk, and using ticketing systems such as Trac, ManageEngine or Remedy.
  • Must be capable to recommend and perform maintenance independently, as required, which may require limited travel in DC metro area or West coast on occasion.
  • Strong communication skills, as well as excellent teaming skills and a positive, customer-focused attitude are a must.

Required Clearance: Active TS/SCI; US citizenship. (Please note that hiring will be contingent on timely transfer of clearances)

 Desired: JUNOS and/or CCNA certification, S ,familiarity with Solarwinds, Splunk, LINUX, and/or Windows is strongly desired; scripting skills (e.g. Perl or shell) would also be helpful.
