Job Overview:
 
Manager, Fabric will support Macy’s Private Brand business through fabric sourcing and development. Responsible for sourcing fabrics within brands price point to achieve margin targets, as well as elevate brand aesthetic. Provide technical fabric support to Design and Product teams to achieve Design intent.  Responsible for the development of direct reports.  Perform other duties as assigned. 
 
Essential Functions:
 
• Partner with Design teams to maintain brand aesthetics and seasonal direction to ensure that new fabric trends can be interpreted by brand.
• Attend key fabric development meetings to support the sourcing of new materials.
• Enter and maintain information in PLM.
• Create weekly fabric tracking report to review with Design and Product.
• Send material requests to OS offices & mills, optimize sourcing based on regional fabric strength, factory location and price targets. Strong follow-up to ensure all development is completed within designated time frame.
• Partner w Fabric R&D team to edit fabric trends from runway, market/competitive shopping and mill presentations.
• Partner w Fabric R&D team to identify key items / fabrics seasonally for potential fabric consolidation opportunities.
• Strongly adhere to development calendar.
• Coordinate meetings between mills, design, product, fabric team, etc. where applicable.
• Troubleshoot fabric quality problems, re-engineer fabrics for better costing and improved quality, partnership w design and mills where applicable.
• Partner w R&D Team in the creation, updating and execution of training for both OMNI & MMG teams.
• Attend key trade shows in New York.
• Create fabric board cards by brand and maintain seasonally, where applicable.
• Responsible to competitive shop both aspirational and direct references to understand market direction.  Recap and share with Fabric R&D and Design teams.
• Maintain fabric binders by style/category.
• Develop direct reports.
• Regular, dependable attendance & punctuality.

• Mills & Vendors.
• Omni Fashion Office.
• MMG Creative Team.
• BPI.
 
Qualifications:
 
Education/Experience:
 
• Bachelor’s Degree in related major, Fabric related degree a plus.
• 5-7 yrs. of experience in fabric research & development with strong fabric knowledge.
 
Communication Skills:
 
• Strong presentation and public speaking skills and ability to clearly communicate and articulate fabric direction to both design teams and oversee vendors.
• Strong writing and editing skills.
 
Reasoning Ability:
 
• Strong organizational and follow up skills and ability to multitask.
 
Other Skills:
 
• Proficient in understanding fabric properties (knit and woven) and how these properties effect finished garments.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and PLM; Illustrator/Photoshop a plus.
• Detail oriented.
• Eye for emerging trends.
 
Work Hours:
 
• Ability to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs.
