Area Manager External Affairs - Atlanta

Overall Purpose: Responsible for advancing legislative and regulatory agenda of the company

 

Key Roles and Responsibilities: Develops and maintains key relationships with stakeholders in pre-defined geographic area within metro-Atlanta, with the ability to serve as subject matter expert on ordinances and legislation impacting AT&T. Responsible for local government relations and serves as primary point of contact for pre-defined geographic area within metro Atlanta. Meets with local elected officials, state legislators and their staff to discuss pending issues impacting AT&T.  Develops analysis of local ordinances and legislation; develops coalitions of 3rd parties; serves as primary point of contact for AT&T within community. Collaborate and contribute to the state legislative affairs. Confer and consult with district staff to field constituent concerns. Promote company's policy agenda during public hearings, 3^rd party organization and before key audiences. Cooperates with all business units in meeting specific business goals and objectives. Conducts various community events to bridge relationships between community and elected officials. Serves as the face of the corporation in the communities it serves. Serves on local boards and commissions. Viewed as integral community partner and thought leader. Serves as liaison between community and AT&T Foundation; supports local grant programs. Assists corporate communications with media relations.

 

Job Contribution: Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criterion for obtaining results.

 

Education: Preferred Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Experience: Typically 5-8 years of experience in related field. Significant experience within City of Atlanta and metro Atlanta region with established relationships. A strong understanding of political, social and economic issues within City of Atlanta and metro Atlanta region. Previous experience working with local elected officials and a firm understanding of local government operations. Ability to work in fast paced environment and manage multiple issues and activities. Experience as an effective communicator, both written and orally, with ability to understand dynamic and complex subject matter. Experience in local, state, or federal government or with large corporation is preferred.
