Special Order Account Rep

Job Summary
Provides product ideas, quotes, purchase order execution, and customer service relating to promotional and proprietary products and services that fall outside of the standard programs. Responds directly to Sales Representative and customer inquiries while working towards high proficiency in most aspects of the role.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Develops customer relations directly through customer or sales representative for assigned book of business to prepare quotes based upon order specifications. Researches possible solutions utilizing company systems, merchandise, sourcing and selling products from our stock line and approved suppliers and provides solutions to the customer. 
  • Examines customer expectations to develop and present recommendations to customers for approval. Utilizes company systems combined with work experience for pricing application for larger volumes. Works with suppliers to source products/negotiate cost to meet the customers specific needs for non-program merchandise, special events, etc. 
  • Collaborates with various support departments (with Mgr/Team Lead assistance as needed) to implement customer expectations & requirements. Supports the program process by providing necessary customer information to ensure the success of a program. 
  • Works with expeditors/billing/accounting to facilitate the billing process via company and/or customer invoicing or e-procurement processes and systems with occasional manager assis 
  • Resolves client / supplier / internal issues with guidance & assistance from mgr/team lead. 
  • Involvement in ongoing improvement efforts as directed by management.
  • Represents Staples at customer shows, corporate trade shows, and occasional territory travel. 
  • Innovation and Change (i.e. improvements to procedures, services, or products, as well as development of new ideas, methods, techniques, services and products) 
  • Involvement in ongoing improvement efforts as directed by management.

Education/Experience Equivalent (minimum requirements)

  • High School Diploma or equivalent combination of educations and related experience 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field, preferred 
  • 2 – 4 years of related or transferrable experience 

Other Skills
(e.g. specialized training, language proficiency, functional expertise etc.)
  • Strong customer service knowledge and skills 
  • Excellent customer relation and communication skills including verbal and written such as e-mail and phone skills. 
  • Solid demonstrated use of Microsoft programs (Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint) required. Industry experience with ESP or SAGE is preferred. 
  • Demonstrated organizational skills with capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously. 
  • Advanced “strategic business sense” skills and math aptitude 
  • Solid knowledge of company systems and processes 
  • Promotional products merchandising or purchasing skills, preferred
